MARION, Ill. -- A rainy forecast didn’t stop the fun at the 4th annual Take Me Out to the Car Show! Around 100 cars, trucks, and motorcycles rolled into Mtn Dew Park for the June 7th event. The day also featured a variety of local vendors, giveaways, food options, and the always popular burnout contest. “People gather around to watch. It’s loud, it’s smoky, and it’s a lot of fun,” said Shawn Hughes, president of Interstate Tire Pros Auto Service. Three winners took home trophies for the burnout contest, while more than 30 awards were handed out for the car show. Some of the categories included best paint, most original, best engine, and top honors for motorcycles. This year’s Take Me Out to the Car Show raised $5,000 for its chosen charities – the Ainad Shriners/Williamson County Shrine Club and the Gary Sinise Foundation. The Williamson County Shrine Club’s Road Runners unit provides free transportation to medical appointments for children across southern Illinois. The Gary Sinise Foundation offers programs for veterans, service members, first responders and their families. “We’re happy that we can support two great causes. We want to thank all the sponsors, all the vendors, and everyone who comes out and makes this show a hit each year. We couldn’t do it without all of you,” said Hughes.
